"Any KISS fans who ventured into Saturday night's Nashville Opera production of Richard Wagner's THE FLYING DUTCHMAN might have briefly wondered if their favorite lead singer missed his flight.
The popular rock group known for its extravagant makeup and over-the-top theatrics performed here the night before, and The Dutchman's ghostly attire, and sinister manner wasn't too far removed from that of Gene Simons.
Nor was it so very distant from the growling male lead of Beauty and the Beast.
What was different, unmistakably different, was the quality of this monster's voice.  And bass Valentin Peytchinov as the Dutchman was, in fact only one strong voice among many in this company's first-ever production of a full Wagner opera..."
